As a pastor in Dallas, Texas, Neil Tomba noticed a disturbing trend among people in his church—they were finding it increasingly difficult to speak about God to those outside of the church. In 2019 he decided to set an example for his congregation and set out biking across the United States to talk—but more importantly, listen—to strangers from all walks of life about faith, their experiences, and matters of the soul.
The Listening Road takes you through the country and straight into its soul—from Route 66 motels to state parks, from a lake house to a railway car, from conversations with Amish farmers to chats with truckers, cowboys, mechanics and even a descendant of Daniel Boone. It shows that, even in these divisive and tense times, real conversation and connection with others is possible when we create spaces of grace and enter in with the intent to listen.
The Listening Road is an eight-part docu-series that captures Neil Tomba’s remarkable 33-day journey cycling 3,000 miles across the United States. Each day in the journey is presented through both the lens of landscapes, hardships and conversations captured on camera along with a narration provided by Neil reflecting on the experiences for him and his cycling team. Two-disc set.
