Description

Jerusalem, rich in historical and Biblical heritage, is the home of the Temple Mount, one of the world's most recognizable and visited sacred sites. Now, travel back in time to see it the way Jesus and his disciples did over 2,000 years ago. They knew it as Herod's Temple. We remember it as the Temple Jesus knew. Imagine the scene as Jesus expelled the moneychangers from its outer court and as the veil of the temple leading to its holiest chamber was torn at the time of Christ's crucifixion.

Through the use of beautiful animation, the temple is reconstructed and we are brought within its precincts to identify with the experience of those living in Jesus' day. We also are confronted with the horror of the fiery destruction of the Temple by the Romans in A.D. 70. Through it all, we come to appreciate the central role of the Temple in the life of first century Jews and Christians. Fullscreen.

Editorial Reviews

If you, like me, read Old Testament descriptions of the Temple and have difficulty wrapping your head around it, if you need all the visual aids you can get, you will appreciate Herod's Temple: The Temple Jesus Knew. If, like me, you enjoy learning historical details such as how and why Herod's Temple was built and how the Jews used it and worshipped in it, you will thoroughly enjoy this DVD. With the aid of photos, etchings, paintings, video footage, recorded interviews, and computer generated graphics, your narrator walks you through the history of the Temple, its construction and use, and prophecies about its future. As you become a visitor and, with the help of computer generated graphics, walk through Herod's Temple, you will gain a fresh appreciation of its magnitude and a greater understanding of what took place within its walls. After watching the DVD, you may choose to access the extras. These fall under four different headings. You can see an artist's model of Herod's Temple. You may choose to view Dr. Frederick Baltz's bio and his complete answers to a set of interview questions. Clips from these appear throughout the video. You might opt to listen to each of the songs that enhance the DVD. Finally, you may consider using the study questions to reinforce learning. You can also access these questions and a guide to the movie by inserting this DVD into your computer. Yes, I like! - Larissa McKay

Two thousand years ago, Jerusalem's Temple Mount - a sacred place for Christians, Jews, and Muslims, known the world over as a hotbed of religious contention - was the site for King Herod's Temple. To better understand the significance of the temple in Jesus' ministry (where He famously expelled the moneychangers), this half-hour documentary offers a brief history of the temple's origins, construction, and functions. Dr. Frederick Baltz of the Bible Alive Learning Center and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Galena, IL provides commentary for this well-edited, nicely produced film that features beautiful on-site photography, artworks, artifacts, and digital animation that reconstructs in architectural detail a model of how this temple -- "a place where God meets humanity" -- might have appeared to Jesus and his disciples. DVD extras include an interview with Baltz, bonus footage featuring a model of the temple, and handouts and study questions in PDF format that provide interesting discussion points. Recommended.

Dr. Fredrick Baltz, Lutheran pastor and temple scholar, provides an outstanding, comprehensive explanation of Herod's Temple. We learn about Herod, why be rebuilt the temple, and see how it was constructed in its entire splendor through the use of beautiful animation. Built according to Biblical specifications as the place where God meets humanity, areas were provided in order of ascending holiness for gentiles, women, men, priests, and God. Jesus warned them of the destruction of the temple when de drove out the money changers and called the temple a den of thieves. Both Ezekiel and Revelation give measurements for a new temple but the question remains what is the nature of this new temple? Christians believe that prophecies have already been fulfilled in Jesus, the living cornerstone in God's temple. With the Holy Spirit in us, we are living stones in God's spiritual temple a temple that is still being built today! (I Peter 2:4-5) PDF group study questions and a guide to the people and places are provided.

A fascinating and educational study sure to captivate viewers of all faiths and backgrounds. - James A Cox

- Herod's Temple The Temple Jesus Knew

Amazing Visuals. This program took me inside the New Testament Temple and gave me a new correct backdrop for some many stories from the Gospels and The Acts of the Apostle. Have you have ever wondered what it was like when Jesus overthrew the Money changers tables or what it would have been like during Paul's many confrontations with the Jewish leaders in the Temple? This DVD will give you the backdrop to better understand the dramatic events that took place there.
