Editorial Reviews

Dove Review This movie gives the viewer a glimpse into an apocalyptic future that is dark and grim and yet offers a ray of light and hope. This interesting movie uses the analogy of the Apostle Paul, and how that he was once Saul, a hater and persecutor of Christians. His turnaround was fantastic when he met the Lord on the Road to Damascus and, though blinded, received his sight again when the Christian man named Ananias prayed for him. In this movie, Paul is a persecutor of those who follow “The Way” (Christ) and he winds up blinded during an accident. When an underground Christian named Ananias prays for him, his sight is restored and his encounter with the Lord changes his heart completely. Now he must find the leader of the underground movement, Peter, but the anti-God government plots to use Paul to lead them to Peter. There is a lot of action in the movie and it features the idea of being committed to one’s beliefs no matter what. Although there is nothing explicitly graphic, there are several characters that are shot and killed and a little blood seen on the ground in one scene. We are awarding this futuristic film our Family Approved Seal for ages twelve and over due to the several killings that take place. This movie will keep your attention with its suspense and apocalyptic plot. Awarded four out of 5 doves. Family approved for ages 12 and over.

- My Name is Paul

The title of this movie holds out a promise it does not keep and is symptomatic of so many 'Christian' films... there is NO mention of the name of Jesus! Really? In a movie supposedly paralleling the life of the Apostle Paul who constantly preached Christ crucified and absolutely no mention of Jesus Christ? We hear about 'The Way' throughout the film without it being given any context. Who IS the way? You won't find out in this movie. They missed the perfect opportunity to use John 14:6 and proclaim Jesus as THE Way, THE truth and THE Life.

- Staff Pick - An Imaginative Film

My Name is Paul is an imaginative contemporary retelling of the Story of the Apostle Paul. The film has many strengths; a good (if somewhat flawed) script, competent acting and fine direction. It presents a powerful message that will engage viewers and hopefully compel them to seek out the source material in the Book of Acts. My Name is Paul is a great resource for churches (especially youth ministries) and individuals who can use the film as a stepping off point to share the biblical story of Paul and the message that Jesus is “The Way, the Truth and the Life.” I believe films like My Name is Paul can serve to plant seeds in the hearts and minds of viewers who might not otherwise have any exposure to biblical content.
