Description

James Friedrich, founder of Cathedral Films, was inspired to make films that would minister to the church. In 1936 Friedrich moved to Hollywood and met the talent that would become his collaborative team for many years, including veteran Hollywood director Irving Pichel (Most Dangerous Game).

The Cathedral Films Collection is part of the Gospel Films Archive, a multi-volume collection of rare and vintage Christian movies produced in the 20th century by independent Christian producers (Including Catholic producers such as Loyola University and The Christophers Organization) as well as major Hollywood studios. These vintage movies demonstrate how the Christian message was communicated to 20th century audiences through visual media. They also provide a heartwarming nostalgic experience that fans of classic movies will love. Though they are from a bygone era, these films often tackle subjects that remain surprisingly relevant for contemporary audiences.

Ambassador for Christ — 1949 - Cathedral Films / 33m — Paul and Barnabas take the Gospel to Antioch, where the prophets foretell of a famine in Jerusalem and Paul teaches that all people, even slaves, are equal in the sight of God.

No Greater Power — 1960 - Cathedral Films / 24m — The conniving and ambitious Zaccheus becomes tax collector of Jericho. He uses his wealth and power to further his own selfish ambitions. Everything changes when Jesus comes to dinner.

- Messages loud and clear

Wonderful adaptations of New Testament stories that get the point across and entertain at the same time. These are lost treasures.

- I Beheld His Glory

For 32 years, our family were resident missionaries in the Island Nation of Papua New Guinea. We acquired a 16 MM copy of I Beheld His Glory in the early 1980's. By using the smallest generators available to us at the time, we showed this film hundreds of times throughout many of the towns and remote villages of Papua New Guinea. We used a microphone override whenever necessary to clarify the language for the benefit of the non-English speakers. It was our privilege to lead hundreds of Papua New Guineans to a saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ following their viewing of this fine film covering major events in the last week of the Life of Christ. It was our delight to help disciple these new converts and see them either added unto existing congregations in their area or help to organize them into New Testament Congregations in their area. I would recommend the use of this fine film to anyone who is desiring a film that closely follows the Biblical account of the events of the Life of Christ depicted in the film.Sincerely in Christ,Jerry Williams Matthew 28118
